Hubris, eh? What a pisser.
Having spent all season referring to Prescot Cables as ‘pointless’ and ‘the only team worse than us’ among other ignorant, unfunny epithets, they go and fucking beat us. Not that this puts them in any sort of exclusive club, but there you go. Still, as Richard Kurt once said, pride may come before a fall, but so what? It’s better to walk tall and occasionally fall on your arse than to scuttle through life bent double under the weight of false modesty. A philosophy we here at It’ll Be Off adhere to strongly.
Following the game, Margy let his defenders know that improvements must be made, speaking to the M.E.N he stated “Some of our defending was a disgrace, and there are players in the team who are skating on very thin ice.” With Micah Bleau having already left the club, it seems that the short-term future of several more players could be in the balance.
So what of Robert Nugent? Despite Dave Chadwick trying to prove otherwise, one man does not a defence make. But surely the return from injury of Nugent will add a strength and stability we have been sorely lacking this season. Well according to surgeons who opened up his knee to have a nosey round, there’s nothing visibly wrong with it. Their advice was to rest it a further six weeks, and do some stretching exercises, or something. Advice that he seems keen to ignore.
Whatever the decision over Nugent, he wont be playing in our inevitable humping at Nantwich on Saturday – Adam Turner is back in the team having missed the Prescot game due to work commitments.
